Working of a Diode

what is a diode actually?


Diode is a semiconductor device.
It allows the current only in one direction to pass through it.

Symbol of the Diode:

How does it works ?

When it is forward biased it allows the current to pass through it.
  And
When it reverse biased it blocks the current to pass through it..

What is biasing ?
 Biasing means applying external voltage.
It is of two types : 1.Forward biasing
                                 2.Reverse biasing 

Forward biasing of a diode:
when positive terminal of the battery is connected to positive of the diode and negative terminal of battery is connected to the negative of the battery the condition is called Forward biased condition.

Reverse biasing of a diode:

when positive terminal of the battery connected to negative of diode and negative terminal of battery is connected to positive of diode then this condition is called reverse biased condition
